Solar Installers In Massachusetts

Valley Solar co-owners Mike Hempstead and Patrick Rondeau have embraced the future of renewable energy and established the company as a leader in the area of battery storage. These days more than half of Valley Solar’s customers have battery storage systems installed along with solar power. Like a generator, a battery will power a home during a power outage.

“By including battery storage with solar, you’re getting a complete home energy system,” Hempstead said. “By adding a battery you can say goodbye to power outages completely. You can run your home on solar night and day.”

Because of its commitment to battery storage, Valley Solar was selected by Tesla Energy to be its exclusive launch partner in New England for the Powerwall 3, the company’s latest energy storage system. The compact battery attaches to the outside of a house and stores energy generated by the sun or from the grid.

As a result of its collaboration with Tesla, Valley Solar will be able to offer the Powerwall 3 at pre-launch prices. The state also offers homeowners incentives for installing battery storage systems, including zero percent loans. The federal government offers a 30 percent tax credit for batteries retrofitted to existing solar energy systems.

Valley Solar was founded in 2015 in Northampton by Valley Home Improvement President Steven Silverman. The company has grown as it has established itself as a leading provider of solar energy in the Pioneer Valley. When Hempstead, company President, and General Manager Rondeau bought the business from Silverman in August 2020, Valley Solar had seven employees. Today, there are more than 40, including 12 licensed electricians who hold more than 30 energy storage training certifications.

“Because of that training we’re able to offer a high standard of expertise and workmanship,” Hempstead said. “The journey for us from 3-4 years ago is we made a lot of investments in training to install batteries.”

At least partly as a result of its rapid growth, Valley Solar had to find more space and has been located in Eastworks in Easthampton for two years. The bright and spacious office allows the team to collaborate easily and inspires creativity.

Valley Solar, which serves customers from Worcester to western Massachusetts, will install its 500th battery storage system this spring.

“Valley Solar has installed more battery systems than any other independently-owned contractor in the state,” Hempstead said.

Valley Solar built its stellar reputation by providing affordable and reliable solar power to homes, businesses and farms through highly personalized and expert service. The award-winning company has been named a Daily Hampshire Gazette Reader’s Choice winner five years in a row. This year Valley Solar captured the Valley Advocate’s Best of the Valley Reader’s Poll top ranking for Solar Installation.

The company’s services also include electrical contracting and service and maintenance.

Valley Solar is dedicated to serving the communities of the Pioneer Valley through efforts like being a presenting sponsor of this year’s Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage and Bikes Fight Cancer, to name just two of the company’s charitable endeavors.

“We go the extra mile for our customers,” Hempstead said. “We have a real spirit of innovation and a commitment to do things better; we’re always making our processes better. We’re always learning and improving so we can serve our customers more efficiently.”
